| Models exist in a social and organizational context. |
 |
We spend a significant proportion of the beginning of an engagement ‘framing the problem’. This includes using workshops, interviews and expert panels where necessary.
| Framing a problem means, among other things: |
| • |
Clarifying assumptions and objectives |
| • |
Discussing expectations and minimum requirements |
| • |
Identifying and rationalising options |
| • |
Explaining methods at a high-level |
| • |
Setting out a plan |
Similarly, we focus on debriefing clients at the end of projects, taking care that an adequate level of knowledge transfer has occurred for the client to move forward on their own. Documentation is drafted for each facet of a project and a series of internal workshops conducted to whatever audience the client requires.
Models touch organisations at many levels and their development can be a highly political process. Our experience has been that it is absolutely critical to build consensus across an organisation. The framing and debriefing process is therefore an important element to the proper development and implementation of material models.
As discussed elsewhere on this site (Methodologies), we have a relatively broad base of methods to call upon. Therefore we never force any particular technique onto a problem and have experience using the optimal level of sophistication to rationalise a problem.
In our view, it is important to spend time discussing the technical components of a project—above that of project documentation. We invest a lot of time in clarifying the analytic decisions we’ve made and the methods we’ve utilised.
Most of our projects have involved the application of methods in the public-domain. However, where White Kite has co-developed a proprietary solution (or product) with a client, we have discussed the possibility of joint-venturing, or revenue-sharing, in place of fees.
Our current base of operations is London, UK and a lot of our work is performed on the client’s site. However, many modelling engagements can be set-up for the team to operate remotely, servicing areas outside of London.
