Our commercial and operational approach to projects is highly flexible and driven by the client’s specific needs.
We have conducted a mix of short and long projects, ranging from days to months. We have also operated under various commercial terms, from daily rate contracts to fixed-price consulting engagements—and hybrids of the two.

Observations we have made on the structure of the market for modelling services has strongly influenced our approach to engagements. We make this point here to highlight the flexibility and depth of our approach to model building.

We see a significant space between:
1. the professional services offered by large consultancies, and;
2. the fragmented market of individual contractors

This is true also of the type of work that clients typically allocate to either camp. Larger consultancies are selected for strategy engagements and strategically-sensitive work. Contractors are used as a general resource and short-term buffer to supply gaps in the labour market.

White Kite occupies the space between these two extremes.

As a smaller, specialist consultancy, we have the technical depth and breadth of a larger consultancy for the type of model building we offer. We are constantly developing and extending our methodological base and generating a growing resource for subsequent projects. We do not however, take on strategy engagements or advisory work with strategic consequences.

We are highly targeted in the services we provide but have also supported programmes in the ‘interim management’ sense. That is to say, where a project client has had a significant gap in their quantitative resource base, we have extended the terms of the engagement to manage the shortfall. We have also managed inductions for people that have joined our client’s team during the time that we have been running projects.

In addition to providing interim modelling support, we have also helped clients reframe ‘wanted positions’ as a consulting engagement with flexible, targeted terms. We find that large companies in the financial sector often advertise positions that are really designed to meet some critical, short-term requirement rather than a clear, ongoing need. With minor adjustments, these requirements can often be reshuffled to separate modelling activities—with a finite horizon—from the true, underlying management requirement.

Our operating model is deliberately flexible, allowing for a range of project and billing structures. Lastly, our fees are not in the same range as the larger firms and in that respect we feel that our services are cost-effective.
